A Japanese design and product-development subsidiary of Bandai Namco Holdings, established April 1981 as Popy Planning Studio within Popy (then Bandai's mass-market-toy subsidiary). Renamed Studio Plex in 1985 when Bandai absorbed Popy, then renamed Plex in 1990. In 2007, Bandai folded the revived Popy brand back into Plex as part of broader Bandai Namco Holdings restructuring (Plex was the surviving entity). In February 2019, Plex absorbed Wiz Co., Ltd. (the Tamagotchi developer). Headquartered in Taito-ku, Tokyo. Specializes in planning, design, and product development for Bandai character-toy and anime-merchandise lines including Super Sentai, Power Rangers, Kamen Rider, Machinerobo, Voltron Lions, and the broader Bandai children's-toy and tokusatsu catalog. Operational role inside the Bandai group is design-house-as-subsidiary rather than arm's-length design-partner; products ship under Bandai branding with Plex credited on packaging.
