ASCII Media Works was formed by the 2008 merger of ASCII and MediaWorks, carrying the powerhouse Dengeki brand of light novels, manga, and magazines into the Kadokawa group.
ASCII Media Works was born from a merger. When the publishers ASCII and MediaWorks combined in 2008, the new imprint carried MediaWorks' powerhouse Dengeki brand, light novels, manga, and magazines, into the Kadokawa group. It became one of the most productive IP sources in the otaku economy, the publishing home of franchises that other companies turn into anime and figures. Today it operates as a Kadokawa imprint rather than a standalone house.
