Japan
A Tokyo publishing and entertainment conglomerate established November 10, 1945 by Genyoshi Kadokawa as Kadokawa Shoten, restructured through Kadokawa Holdings (2003), Kadokawa Group Holdings (2006), the October 1, 2013 nine-subsidiary merger into the unified Kadokawa Corporation, and the October 1, 2014 Kadokawa Dwango formation. Headquartered in Fujimi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. Sony Group Corporation became the largest shareholder at approximately 10% on January 7, 2025 through a strategic-capital and business alliance. For figures, Kadokawa is principally the IP licensor and publishing parent rather than the direct manufacturer; the catalog (Re:Zero, KonoSuba, Overlord, Sword Art Online, Date A Live, and many others) drives a substantial share of the modern Japanese figure market through partner manufacturers (Good Smile Company, Max Factory, Kotobukiya, Alter, others). Direct merchandise runs through Kadokawa anime and e-Store channels.
