A Japanese publisher founded December 1, 1986 in Shibuya, Tokyo as a spin-off from the publishing division of Recruit Co., Ltd. Acquired by Kadokawa Corporation for 8 billion yen on October 12, 2011 (transaction finalized November 15, 2011) and dissolved as a separate kabushiki gaisha on October 1, 2013 when nine Kadokawa Group subsidiaries were merged into the unified Kadokawa Corporation. The Media Factory name continues as a Kadokawa brand company. Best known for the MF Bunko J light-novel imprint (launched 2002; Re:Zero, KonoSuba, The Rising of the Shield Hero, No Game No Life, High School DxD, Date A Live) and the Monthly Comic Alive seinen manga magazine (launched June 2006).
