Japan
A Japanese toy, hobby, and entertainment distribution conglomerate whose founding traces to Tōshō Co., Ltd., established June 7, 1969 by Hiroshi Kawai after he departed Bandai. Tōshō merged with Dairin Inc. and Seikō Inc. in October 1991 to form Happinet Corporation. Became a Bandai affiliate in November 1994 and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in December 1998. Bandai Namco Holdings is the largest shareholder. Headquartered at Komagata CA Building, 2-4-5 Komagata, Taito-ku, Tokyo. Kazuhiko Note serves as Representative Director, Chairman & CEO. Operations span five segments: Toy (wholesale distribution and own-brand merchandise), Visual & Music (anime / film / music package distribution including the A24 Japan distribution partnership), Video Game (publishing and distribution), Amusement, and Logistics Function. Acquired Broccoli through a friendly tender offer announced April 14, 2023 and finalized June 13, 2023, bringing the Di Gi Charat / Uta no Prince-sama / Aquarian Age IP catalog and the Gamers retail chain inside the Happinet group. For figures, Happinet's role is distribution and corporate-parent rather than direct sculpt-and-mold manufacture; some Happinet-branded scale-figure releases appear in retailer taxonomies through the company's toy-segment operations.
