FREEing set up in Yokohama in 2006, and within a year it had found the thing it would become known for. The earliest piece now catalogued under the B-style line was a quarter-scale Asahina Mikuru in a bunny suit, out in September 2007, with the rest of the Haruhi Suzumiya cast following close behind, Nagato and Tsuruya and Haruhi herself, each one big enough to put real weight on a shelf. From there the format settled into something the company has kept returning to for the better part of two decades: a licensed character rendered at 1/4 scale, dressed for the most part as a bunny girl, though the early catalogue wandered just as readily into the gym uniforms of Lucky Star and Kodomo no Jikan.

What sets the line apart is less the pose than the cloth. Rather than mold the fishnets and stockings in plastic, FREEing cuts them from real netting and fits them over the figure, and it holds a Japanese utility-model registration on the covering method that makes this hold up at scale. The texture reads as fabric because it is fabric, and it tends to be the detail collectors point to first. The line leans on it openly: the version wearing the tights ships as standard, and the same sculpt without them returns as a bare-leg bunny release, which is how one character can arrive in more than a single form.

The roster reads like a long tour through anime. Past those early Haruhi and Lucky Star runs came K-ON!, Ikki Tousen, the Sora no Otoshimono angeloids, Nanoha's StrikerS cast, and on into High School DxD, Azur Lane, Bleach, and a fifteenth-anniversary Holo from Spice and Wolf. By now it runs to several hundred figures, most at 1/4 and some scaled up to 1/3, and it sits within the wider Good Smile Company group that handles much of FREEing's distribution. The fabric tights stay the tell, the one detail that sets a B-style figure on the shelf apart from everything molded in a single piece beside it.
