A Japanese publisher and IP holder formed April 1, 2008 by the merger of two Kadokawa Group Holdings subsidiaries: ASCII Corporation (founded 1977 by Kazuhiko Nishi, Akio Gunji, and Keiichiro Tsukamoto) and MediaWorks (founded October 15, 1992 by Tsuguhiko Kadokawa as a Kadokawa Shoten spin-off). MediaWorks legally absorbed ASCII in the merger; Kiyoshi Takano, the former ASCII President and CEO, became the first ASCII Media Works President and CEO. Dissolved as a separate kabushiki gaisha on October 1, 2013 via Kadokawa's nine-subsidiary merger into the unified Kadokawa Corporation; the ASCII Media Works name and the inherited Dengeki imprint continue as Kadokawa brand identities. Best known for the Dengeki Bunko light-novel imprint (Sword Art Online, A Certain Magical Index, Toradora!, Boogiepop, Shakugan no Shana, Spice and Wolf, Durarara!!, Oreimo) and the Dengeki G's Magazine and Dengeki PlayStation print operations.
