A Japanese anime producer, licensor, and distributor established in September 1995 as SPE Music Publishing under Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan, transitioned to Sony Music Entertainment Japan ownership on January 1, 2001 as SME Visual Works, and rebranded to Aniplex on April 1, 2003. Headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Produces and distributes some of the modern era's most significant anime franchises — Fate/stay night and the broader Fate catalog (with Type-Moon), Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Sword Art Online, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fullmetal Alchemist, Gurren Lagann, Monogatari, and the Persona 5 anime work. For figures, operates as IP licensor + direct distributor through Aniplex+ (the premium-merchandise e-store launched in 2014). Aniplex of America runs the US distribution arm.
